Captured and imprisoned in the Glaive Castle, our Hero is forced to fight for his life against fearsome monsters every day. Seeing his fellow gladiators mercilessly slain one after another, he bides his time looking for an opening and flees the arena through the monster gate. After successfully making his escape, he heads to a nearby cliff, looking out over a waterfall close to the castle, but overhears a clandestine meeting between Julius and the Dark Lord. Betraying his presence, he is thrown into the roiling basin below and loses consciousness.
Upon waking, our hero wanders unknown lands until he encounters the heroine of the story, rescuing her from a monstrous attack. Discovering that she is searching for a man named Bogard, and having no particular goals of his own, he decides to accompany the woman on her journey. Little does he know that his actions have drawn him into the mighty and unforgiving currents of fate!
Long ago…
Using the power of Mana, civilization had grown strong…
In time, Mana was used to create the ultimate weapon: the Mana Fortress…
This angered the gods, and they sent their beasts to destroy the Fortress…
A violent war between the beasts and the fortress plunged the world into chaos, and Mana seemed to all but disappear…
Before all was lost, a hero wielding the Mana Sword smashed the Fortress…
Though civilization had been destroyed, the world was peaceful again.
But time flows like a river… and history repeats…
In the ages when the world was still sealed in darkness, the Goddess of Mana took up the Sword of Mana and defeated the Eight Benevodons, fell avatars of cataclysm that had brought all the lands to the brink of ruin. She then sealed the fallen beasts within the Mana Stones.
In time the darkness cleared and the world came into being.
The Goddess of Mana transformed herself into a mighty tree and fell into slumber. Much time passed...
However, the fires of war have come to rage once again, as some seek to free the Benevodons from their stone prisons, hoping to obtain the power to eclipse even the gods and take the world for their own. Thus is a curtain drawn on the fragile age of peace.
The power of Mana drains rapidly from the land and the Mana Tree begins to wither…
